2017 SUMMER ‘SCAPES SUMMER CAMP
Registration begins for members on February 13 and nonmembers on March 6. Completed camp forms plus payment in full is required for registration.
Summer ‘Scapes camp hours are from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with before and after care available for an additional fee. Before Care begins at 8 a.m. and is $5 per day; After Care ends at 5 p.m. and is $10 per day. Before care and after care must be registered for in advance with a credit card number kept on file.
Registration fee: $35 per child (one-time fee; includes one camp t-shirt, additional t-shirts available for purchase)
Camp Fee: Family level members or higher $195 per week, other member levels and nonmembers $225 per week (exception week 7-A).
EXCEPTION: WEEK 7-A: SNAP PHOTOGRAPHY CAMP – New specialized curriculum culminating in a Photography Exhibit to be showcased at Longue Vue during August. Only 5 spots available for this camp; recommended for campers with a high interest in photography. Cost: Family level members or higher $225; other member levels and nonmembers $260.
If a replacement camper can be found, a refund will be given minus a 10% processing fee. The $35 registration fee is non-refundable. If no replacement camper is found: a 75% refund will be given, if notification of cancellation is given prior to May 1 and a 50% refund will be given if notification is given between May 1 and 15. After May 31, no refunds will be given.
All scholarships are given out at this time. Please check back with us next year.
HOW TO REGISTER
2. A Longue Vue Educator will review your request form. You will receive an email with a link to fill out the registration information and pay the camp fee if we are able to accommodate your request. If we are unable to accommodate your child, you will be contacted by email or phone. Requests are filled on a first come, first served basis.
3. Your registration is not complete until your payment is made and all information has been submitted. Upon completion, you will receive an email confirming your registration. If you need additional information, please refer to theFrequently Asked Questions or contact Lydia Vaughn at 504.293.4722.

Week 1: June 5 – 9 │ The Art of Nature Camp (ages 5 – 7) SOLD OUT Emailto be placed on wait list.
Come observe, discover, and create in Longue Vue’s camp for nature-lovers and artists. Campers will enjoy the great outdoors as we explore the beauty of Longue Vue’s 8 acres of gardens and channel this inspiration into art. We will learn about exemplary artists who focus on nature in their work, and make our own art in a variety of media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, and paper-making. Join us for a reception at the end of the week to exhibit campers’ artwork.
Week 2: June 12 – 16 │ The Art of Games: Play and Make Camp (ages 5 – 7) SOLD OUT Emailto be placed on wait list.
Do you love making art and playing games? Come do both in Longue Vue’s camp for young creative minds. Campers will learn the basics of game theory, analyze game structures, paint, draw, and sculpt to create their own games, and of course, PLAY! We will use the power of art to not only participate in games, but create them ourselves. A reception will be held at the end of the week to celebrate campers’ playful artwork.
Week 3: June 19 – 23 │ Optical and Kinetic 3D Art Camp (ages 5 – 7) SOLD OUT Emailto be placed on wait list.
Be inspired by Longue Vue’s permanent Modern Art collection! Create masterpieces using 2D and 3D art-making techniques with inspiration from pieces by artists Jaacov Agam, Lillian Florsheim, Naum Gabo, Pablo Picasso, and Victor Vasarely. Campers will learn about artists through story time and play, explore related artwork in our collections, learn new and exciting things about art-making processes, and create masterpieces of their own. Campers will create with paint, clay, sculpture and more! A reception will be held at the end of the week to exhibit camper’s artwork.
Week 4: June 26 – 30 │A Bug’s Life: Insect Investigation Camp (ages 5 – 7) SOLD OUT Emailto be placed on wait list.
Come play and explore in Longue Vue’s interdisciplinary art and science camp as we examine a bug’s life. Campers will create a naturalist’s journal, search for bugs to observe in the classroom, create art and learn all about the anatomy, life cycle, and behaviors of insects! Through games and artistic inquiry, campers will catch a glimpse into the world of a bug’s life. Join us for an exhibition at the end of the week to see campers’ artwork, observations, and discoveries.
Week 5: July 10 – 14 │ Code: Longue Vue – A Code-Breaking and Mystery Camp (ages 7 – 9) SOLD OUT Emailto be placed on wait list.
A house with hidden passages, invisible ink, riddles, disguises, and much more! Learn skills of detection and code-cracking while solving mystery challenges. Play team games to get to the next clue on a week long scavenger hunt set against the backdrop of Longue Vue. All sleuths, artists, and adventurers welcome! A code-breaking reception will test your skills at the end of the week!
Week 6: July 17 – 21 │ Studio Longue Vue: Art-chitecture Camp (ages 7 – 9) SOLD OUT Emailto be placed on wait list.
Welcome to Studio Longue Vue where campers will explore architecture while planning and building a city! Campers will learn about Longue Vue House and New Orleans’ architectural history plus current green building methods. Using imagination and creativity, campers will draw, design, build, and display their own creations in Studio Longue Vue’s Gallery Opening at the end of the week.
Week 7-A: July 24 – 28 | SNAP Photography Camp (ages 10 +)
Perfect for campers with a high interest in photography! Learn how to handle a camera and create photographs that go beyond the snapshot or the cell phone image. In this class campers are exposed to basic darkroom processes and will work in Longue Vue’s historic darkroom learning how to process film and create a black and white print with an enlarger. Topics will include camera operation, principles of exposure, film development and picture content. No cameras required but campers may bring their own SLR cameras. Students will also share and create with SLR film cameras (cameras and film provided). Limited class size; 5 campers maximum. A special opening reception for this camp only for family and friends scheduled for August. Cost: Family level members or higher $225; other member levels and nonmembers $260.
Week 7-B: July 24 – 28 | Garden Adventures Camp (ages 5 – 7) SOLD OUT Emailto be placed on wait list.
Make creative and colorful crafts inspired by our gardens! Campers will explore nature, harvest herbs, create edibles, paint pots, and play in the Lucy C. Roussel Discovery Garden! Pot up a plant, dig for worms, hunt for bugs, play games and crafts galore! Goofy Olympics play on Friday morning wraps up this fun-filled week!
